  • An analysis of the most famous rangaku painting surviving from the 18th century. Through an understanding of the political significance of the New Year's party at Otsuki Gentaku's private academy, I was the first to identify nearly two-thirds of the 30 people depicted on this painting.

  • A fortuitous combination of circumstances brought the key to the solution of a 133-year old unsolved murder case to my attention.
